A Novel Clustering Algorithm for Wi-Fi Indoor Positioning

Abstract: In recent years, the Wi-Fi-based indoor positioning technology has become a research hotspot. This technology mainly locates the indoor Wi-Fi based on the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) signals. The most popular Wi-Fi positioning algorithm is the k-nearest neighbors (KNN) algorithm. Due to the excessive amount of RSSI data, clustering algorithms are generally adopted to classify the data before KNN positioning. However, the traditional clustering algorithms cannot maintain data integrity after the c… Show more

“…However, the reduction in the computational load often comes with accuracy issues [ 31 ]. These advances of the area resulted in different approaches concerning traditional clustering such as K -means [ 32 ], hierarchical [ 33 , 34 ], and other novel clustering techniques [ 35 ]. Graph-based data structures have also been proposed recently to improve IPSs.…”

“…In [159], author proposed a non-RSSI based multi-dimensional clustering for access point optimization to find the indoor positioning. In [160], a C-means clustering based improved public c-means (IPC) is proposed to optimize the fingerprint data. With the advancement of swarm intelligence, a hybridized algorithm considering artificial neural network and swarm intelligence is presented in [161], which improves the reliability in positioning and reduces dependency on RSSI fluctuation.…”

“…Several algorithms and ranging parameters have been presented to increase Wi-Fi-based IPS; however, most of the algorithms and measurement solutions need large computing properties and specific hardware [98]. Wi-Fi localization algorithms are introduced, including an AOA-based algorithm (triangulation) [99], trilateration algorithm [1,100], RSSI-based fingerprinting algorithm [101,102] and CSI-based fingerprinting algorithm [98,103].…”
