A Novel CP Horn Antenna with Switchable Polarization by Single Port Feeding

Abstract: A novel CP horn antenna with switchable polarization by single port feeding is presented. The antenna is composed of a coaxial-waveguide converter and a balance-cavity, a horn, a square-to-circular waveguide transition, and a stepped-septum polarizer, which simplify the feeding and can work on the left-hand or right-hand circular polarizations by manual exchanging the mounting position of the coaxial-waveguide converter and the balance-cavity. The antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth (3.88~5.12 GHz) of 27.5… Show more

“…The polarization characteristics of these antennas can be switched among linear polarization (LP), left circular polarization (LHCP), and right circular polarization (RHCP) depending on the propagation environment. However, most studies have been limited to polarization diversity between RHCP and LHCP [2][3][4][5]. In addition, the study on polarization diversity between orthogonal LPs is relatively inadequate [6][7][8][9].…”

“…Many methods have been proposed to produce the circularly polarized horn antenna. Some researchers designed stepped septum inside square waveguide as in [2] [3] [4] to achieve wide bandwidth axial ratio, while a different function was used to design septum polarizer to modify stepped septum transition with smooth lines such as Legendre function and Sigmoid function [5] [6]. However, they still have many parameters, and the lines are not easy to fabricate using the FDM 3D printer.…”
