A Novel Family of Stable Polyelectrolyte Complexes Based on Mixed Olefins–Maleic Anhydride Copolymer

Abstract: In the present study, the copolymer of mixed olefins included in unetherified gasoline and maleic anhydride (PUGM) was prepared by self-stabilized precipitation polymerization (2SP) and employed for the synthesis of a new family of stable polyelectrolyte complexes (PECs). Polyanionic saponified PUGM partially grafted with methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (PUGMS-g-mPEG) and polycationic quaternized PUGM (PUGMQ) were both derived from PUGM via the facile modification of anhydride groups. The particle size, zeta pot… Show more

“…In order to reduce the preparation cost, complex olefinic mixtures, including C4/C5/C9 fractions (extracted from the cracking product of raffinate oil and naphtha), and unetherified gasoline could be used directly without additional separation processes to synthesize complex olefin mixtures-MAH copolymers. 34,35,39 After imidization, hydroxymethylation, and epoxidation, poly[cracked raffinate oil-alt-N-(2-methoxymethyl oxirane)maleimide] copolymers (PRMIEP) based on the cracking product of raffinate oil were facilely prepared.…”

“…In previous works, we developed a facile and efficient heterogeneous polymerization method, named self-stabilized precipitation polymerization (2SP), which is very suitable for the copolymerization of olefinic monomers and maleic anhydride (MAH). Taking 1-hexene as a model α-olefin, the poly(1-hexene- alt -MAH) (PHMA) copolymer was efficiently synthesized, which can serve as a polymeric curing agent for EPs.…”
