A novel firing control and overcurrent protection of the main power switches in the ARCP three phase inverter

Abstract: A novel firing control circuit for the ZVS operation and overcurrent protection of the main power switches in the ARCP three phase inverter is presented, which is applied to auxiliary ac power supply system of the electric railway rolling stock. Since the proposed circuit is composed of only an ac current transformer, four comparators and two AND gates, the circuit is simple and its operation is reliable. Also, the limited value of the overcurrent is easily adjusted by the predetermined reference value of the … Show more

“…Specifically, auxiliary resonant commutated pole (ARCP) snubbers have proved to be efficient for large-capacity soft-switching power converters. ARCP snubbers were proposed by McMurray [1] and DeDoncker and Lyons [2], and verified by Iida and colleagues [3] and Ito and Kondo [4]. Designs with energy regeneration by Inaba and colleagues [5], ARCP with perfect soft-switching operation by Hirota and colleagues [6], and ARCP snubbers by Takano and colleagues [7] are at the practical implementation stage.…”
