A novel five-bar mechanism driven by a cam mechanism

Abstract: In industry, the four-bar mechanism is popularly applied in the trajectory generation. Different types of trajectories are generated by the chosen of the ratio of links. However, the five-bar mechanism is more flexible to generate a specific path due to it has two degrees of freedom. The geared five-bar mechanism is then commonly used by reducing the degree of freedom of the mechanism into one by implied one pair of gear. In this study, a novel cam driven five-bar mechanism is proposed. It simplifies the featu… Show more

“…The profile of the noncircular gears can be derived based on the precious studies [9,10]. Chang, et al [11] proposed a novel cam-driven five-bar mechanism whose input link is a crank while the output link is a rocker driven by the cam. The mechanism is thus compact and covers the trajectories induced by crank-rocker motion that geared five-bar mechanism could not generate.…”

“…In order to show the generated trajectories, the vector loop method is applied in this paper to study the tracing path of the coupler point [5,11]. The typical geared five-bar mechanism is shown in Fig.…”
