A Novel L-B Hybrid Langevin Transducer Type Linear Ultrasonic Motor With Modal Coupling Reducing Configuration

Abstract: For most longitudinal and bending hybrid linear ultrasonic motor, there exists an inherent coupling effect between two modals due to the structure defect, which shows the phenomenon of one phase piezoceramic exciting the other phase vibration or vice versa. A new modal decoupling motor was proposed with the longitudinal piezoceramics positioned in the middle part of Langevin transducer and the bending piezoceramics at longitudinal antinodal plane. The prototype, designed with frequency tuning method, showed ob… Show more

“…From Figure 3 a,b it can be clearly recognized that the longitudinal ceramics are located near the wave node of the longitudinal mode, whereas bending ceramics are placed at the wave loop of the bending mode; these arrangements of the piezoelectric plates comply with the classic design rule of sandwich transducers [ 11 , 12 ]. The new exciting method changes the locations of the piezoelectric plates: the longitudinal ceramics are placed slightly away from the wave node of the longitudinal mode, while the bending ceramics are set away from the wave loop of the bending mode.…”

“…Yun et al proposed a novel PUA using a hybrid of the first longitudinal and second bending vibration modes of a sandwich transducer; their prototype achieved a no-load speed of 470 mm/s and a maximum force of 92 N [ 11 ]. Shi et al proposed a longitudinal-bending hybrid PUA with exponential shape horns, which achieved a maximum speed and force of 920 mm/s and 45 N, respectively [ 12 ]. Zhang et al designed a multi-degree of freedom (DOF) PUA under the operating principle of a longitudinal and bending vibrations hybrid, which was used to drive a robot finger joint [ 13 ].…”

“…The driving source for achieving precision actuation in standing wave ultrasonic motors is typically achieved through the longitudinal-longitudinal [237,238,239], bendingbending mode [240,241] of vibration of the pies-ceramics. In recent years, the composite ultrasonic motors with the hybrid mode of vibration such as longitudinal-bending mode [242,243], longitudinal-torsional mode [244,245] ultrasonic motors configurations are reported extensively. Figures 17(a)-(d) represent the schematic, working principle of longitudinal-longitudinal, bending-bending, longitudinalbending mode, and longitudinal-torsional mode, respectively.…”

“…There are three properties: piezoelectricity, dielectricity and the elastic property. Furthermore, they are widely used in medical imaging [ 3 , 4 ], sensors [ 5 ], actuators [ 6 ], ultrasonic motors [ 1 , 7 , 8 ], micro-electro-mechanical systems [ 9 ] and ultra-precision measurements [ 10 , 11 ]. With piezoelectric actuators, small displacements are produced by the inverse piezoelectric effect of piezoelectric materials.…”
