“…The evaluation of spatial memory is dependent on several elements of working memory and in patients with SCZ, the deterioration of this cognitive ability may reflect the disorganization of thought in these subjects (Soni et al , 2018). Atrophied communication has been found, particularly between the temporal and frontal brain regions, linked to the inability to implement strategies necessary for spatial memory (cognitive mapping), so it is common for these subjects to show poor performance during evaluations such as the virtual-reality navigation task (Wilkins et al , 2019).…”

“…Schizophrenia is a clinically heterogeneous disease with patients showing a wide range of symptoms and deficits (Chou et al, 2017;Soni et al, 2018;Yang et al, 2017) that lead to a decreased quality of life (Cheng et al, 2019;Choo, Chew, Ho, & Ho, 2018) and increased stigma (Zhang et al, 2019). It has a complicated etiology that is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors, including a family history of psychiatric disorders, the polygenic risk score, and parental socioeconomic status (Agerbo et al, 2015;Kakela et al, 2017;Mortensen, Pedersen, & Pedersen, 2010).…”
