A novel method to detect hPG80 (human circulating progastrin) in the blood

Abstract: hPG80 (human circulating progastrin) is produced and released by cancer cells. We recently reported that hPG80 is detected in the blood of patients with cancers from different origins, suggesting its...

“…The ELISA DxPG 80 .lab kit (ECS-Progastrin, Lausanne, Switzerland) was used to measure hPG 80 levels in all plasma EDTA samples according to the manufacturer’s instruction. The analytical performances of the kit are described in Cappellini et al [ 21 ]. Briefly, the limit of detection (LoD) is at a hPG 80 concentration of 1 pM and the limit of quantitation (LoQ) is at a hPG 80 concentration of 3.3 pM.…”

“…hPG 80 (human circulating progastrin) is a pan tumor biomarker that has been found to be over-expressed in multiple malignancies. hPG 80 synthesis is product of overexpression of GAST gene in cancer cells and human circulating progastrin can now be measured accurately with help of DxPG 80 Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) based test [ 8 , 16 ].…”

“…We acknowledge that PPI usage could induce gastrin hyper secretion (hypergastrinemia); however, to our knowledge, there is no publication showing an increase in hPG 80 during PPI usage. Furthermore, as described in Cappellini [ 16 ], we would like to mention that the kit (DxPG 80 ) that was used to measure hPG 80 (human circulating progastrin) does not recognize any other forms of gastrin peptides, avoiding any risk of false positivity due to PPI usage and hypergastrinemia. Nonetheless, we are currently setting up a clinical study to answer this very question.…”

“…A prospective study, which was analyzed retrospectively, was performed on a total of 1,546 patients and 557 healthy blood donors, enabling the determination of hPG 80 , with the DxPG80 IVD ELISA kit developed by BIODENA CARE ( 15 ). In this study, the levels of hPG 80 (circulating progastrin) were determined in 11 different epithelial and non-epithelial cancers (colorectal, breast, uterus, ovary, prostate, kidney, pancreas, esophagus/stomach, liver, melanoma and lung).…”
