A novel polymeric adsorbent by a self-doped manner: synthesis, characterization, and adsorption performance to phenol from aqueous solution

Abstract: The organic-inorganic self-doped poly (vinyltrimethoxy silane-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (VE resin) was synthesized by solution polymerization, hydrolysis and dehydration condensation. In this method, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) was used as cross-linked reagent to form a three-dimensional network structure. Then, the system was prepared by radical polymerization in the presence of the hydrolysis of -OCH 3 and the dehydration condensation of Si-OH. The maximum adsorption capacity 75.68 mg g -1 w… Show more

“…Among miscellaneous approaches to this task, the adsorption method is considered to be the most facile and effective (Dąbrowski et al 2005;Nakagawa et al 2004;An et al 2012;Lu and Sorial 2009;Derylo-Marczewska et al 2011;Lorenc-Grabowska 2016;Kuśmierek et al 2014). The driving force of this process is interactions of the solute molecules with the sorbent surface (Velasco and Ania 2011;Garcia et al 1999;Yang et al 2016;Pan et al 2003;Wang et al 2005). They can be either weak hydrophobic van der Waals forces or stronger dipole-dipole interactions and hydrogen bonding.…”

“…7 Various strategies like ion exchange, electrodeposition, and membrane filtration have been deployed for heavy metal extraction from polluted waters, yet these methods are not without shortcomings. [8][9][10][11] The adsorption technique stands out for its quick action and selectivity in removing metal ions from contaminated water sources. [12][13][14]…”
