A novel pressed coal from citrus and cooking oil wastes using fungi

Abstract: Nowadays renewable energy with low prices is a global target that has taken the attention to compare alternatives energy sources with fossil fuels. Therefore, this study was established to find suitable and sustainable alternative low-cost fuels source. Cooking oil waste (COW) was mixed with non-pretreated citrus tree fibers (CTF) (0.5 mL to 1 g ratio) and pressed to formulate coal (CTF/COW). Otherwise, this mixture was subjected to in situ fungal pretreated using Aspergillus flavus isolate to simplify the mix… Show more

“…During the deinking process, the breakdown of the bond between ink particles and paper fibrils is facilitated by enzymes, followed by the removal of ink particles using a flotation technique. Biobleaching, on the other hand, is a process that involves the separation of lignin from pulp to produce high-quality white paper [225]. In this process, xylanases are commonly employed to aid in the release of lignin from cellulose by attacking hemicellulose [226].…”

“…Environmental issues and lack of fuel supplies mean that it is an appropriate time to look into acceptable sustainable alternative fuels (Altun et al 2011;Hasanin et al 2022;Ibrahim S.M.A. et al 2017;Khalaf et al 2023;Khater et al 2023).…”

“…Citrus is one of the most popular fruits in many countries around the world, including Egypt, which is one of the top ten citrus producers in the world [1]. Citrus fruits, like most other whole foods, contain a diverse range of essential nutrients, including glycemic and nonglycemic carbohydrates (sugars and fiber), potassium, folate, calcium, thiamin, niacin, vitamin B6, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, and a variety 2 of 22 of phytochemicals [2]. Furthermore, citrus has no fat, sodium, or cholesterol because it is a plant food.…”
