A novel sensor using VHF zigzag‐slotted leaky coaxial cable for intruder localization

Abstract: The sensors used in the field of traditional security warfare are often constrained by environmental factors such as weather, light and terrain. In order to solve this problem, a new perimeter intrusion detection system sensor is urgently needed. Based on the theory of the array antenna, leaky coaxial cable (LCX) with periodic zigzag‐slotted outer conductor is designed, its coupling loss is simulated by the software Ansoft HFSS. For evaluating the coupling loss of the LCX comprehensively, the LCX is simulated … Show more

“…When an intruder enters the Figure 6, and the subtraction results of Q-signal is 30, 50, and 70 m_Q. The sum represents the subtraction result of IQ-signal by Equation (6). Obviously, a pulse is obtained from the subtraction results, which indicates the position of the human intruder.…”

“…It is not accurate only to consider the subtraction result of I-signal or the subtraction result of Q-signal as the intruder's position, because the subtraction results of I-signal are not always better than the Qsignal in all positions by Equations (4) and (5). As shown in Figure 7, the difference of I-signal and Q-signal becomes large from 30 to 70 m. Therefore, it is possible to avoid this error and improve the detection probability by calculating the square root of the subtraction results of I-signal and Qsignal according to Equation (6). The curves of square root are 30, 50, and 70 m_sum in Figure 7.…”

“…From that, a method based on TDoA using the time difference between the signal arrival at different ends of the LCX to detect the user location has been proposed in [26,27]. Other positioning methods such as designed pulse signal method are studied in [28][29][30][31].…”
