A Novel Technique for Extraction Foetal Electrocardiogram using Adaptive Filtering and Simple Genetic Algorithm

Abstract: Problem statement: Foetal electrocardiogram (FECG) was the best method used to diagnose Foetal heart problem. Knowledge of the foetal heart signal prevents Foetal problems in the earlier stage. Recently, there has been a growing interest in noninvasive method rather than the old invasive method which was more risky for the mother's health. The most significant problem in noninvasive method is the extraction of the Foetal signals from maternal signals and many contaminated noises. The problems of extraction of … Show more

“…GA is a modern heuristic algorithm, which is widely adopted by researchers in solving complex and large-scale combinatorial optimisation problems (Littidej and Suttayamully, 2009;Radhakrishnan et al, 2009;Ali et al, 2010). GA is an adaptive heuristic based on ideas of natural selection and genetics and one of the most popularapproaches of evolutionary algorithms (Gupta and Ghafir, 2012).…”

“…Ali and Zeng [9] proposed a method for fECG extraction based on genetic algorithm (GA) with an adaptive filter. GA was used whenever the adaptive filter was suspected to reach local minima, then an independent GA search was carried out without using the adaptive filter.…”

“…In this study, a method for bio-potential signal extraction from single or multi-channel paper recorded charts using image processing techniques is developed (Gonzalez and Woods, 2002;Ali and Zeng, 2010;AlMejrad, 2010b;Kumar et al, 2009;Hasan et al, 2009). After scanning the study charts and converting them into images using a commercial scanner, an algorithm is applied to eliminate the background of the scanned paper chart from any recording device single channel or multi-channel using binary neighborhood morphological operations then converting the extracted waveform image into quantized values representing the waveform recorded paper chart.…”
