“…HBOT had rapid onset and a long lasting effect in patients with idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia [ 18 ]. It was found to be an effective treatment in cluster headaches and migraine [ 19 ] and fibromyalgia [ 20 , 21 ]. The potential benefits of HBOT in the treatment of CPRS were initially reported in a small double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study at a military hospital in Turkey on 71 patients with six-week history of traumatic CRPS of the upper extremity [ 22 ].…”

“…The use of HBO 2 to treat chronic pain is the subject of ongoing research in both clinical and preclinical research. Clinically, HBO 2 treatment is reportedly effective in a variety of off-label applications, including some chronic pain conditions such as complex regional pain syndrome (formerly reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome) (Katznelson et al, 2016; Kiralp et al, 2004; Peach, 1995), fibromyalgia syndrome (Efrati et al, 2015; Yildiz et al, 2004), migraine or cluster headache (Di Sabato et al, 1993; Myers and Myers, 1995; Wilson et al, 1998), myofascial pain syndrome (Kiralp et al, 2009) and idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia (Gu et al, 2012). In the preclinical setting, HBO 2 has been shown to produce long-lasting pain relief in experimental animals (Chung et al, 2010; Gibbons et al, 2013; Warren et al, 1979).…”

“…MPS is usually managed by stretch and massage, thermotherapy, electrotherapy, laser therapy, dry needling, acupuncture, shockwave therapy, botulinum toxin type A injection, trigger point injections, pharmacological methods, and according to a recent report even hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be used. [1617181920] Pharmacological treatment methods include diclofenac patch, tramadol, tropisetron, opioids, lidocaine patch, tizanidine, benzodiazepines, cyclobenzaprine, thiocolchicoside, gabapentin, pregabalin, amitriptyline, duloxetine, sumatriptan, botulinum type A toxin, ketamine, L-tryptophan, and memantine. [21] Although medications provide improvement in acute cases, they carry a risk of adverse effects and offer only symptomatic relief.…”
