A Novel Triple Passband Filter Design Method Based on Stepped Impedance Resonators

Abstract: Abstract-In this letter, a novel compact tri-band bandpass filter (BPF) with high selectivity is presented. The proposed tri-band performance measure is realized by using eight sets of resonators, i.e., two-and three-section stepped impedance resonators (SIRs). The three-section SIR is designed for determining the three passbands and providing the electric coupling, while the two-section SIR is used for determining each passband respectively and providing the magnetic coupling. Then, coupling structures with t… Show more

“…These transmission zeros improve selectivity and cause suppression of the higher order modes. Table 3 summarizes comparisons of the proposed filter with other reported tri-band filters [7][8][9][10][11][12] and [13]. The proposed filter has the advantages of low insertion loss and compact size.…”

“…The dual-band filters were reported in [4][5][6] using SLR. Tri-band microstrip planar filters were also reported in [7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. However, RF filter is a basic and important component in the modern wireless communication system, and bandpass filter with the features of micro-package, good performance, low cost and ease of use has been the focus of device miniaturization.…”

“…Therefore, multi-band bandpass filters (BPFs) have attracted much attention for supporting multiple communication applications in a single system, where different frequency bands satisfy the requirement of different standards. Up to now, various methods have been applied to design multi-band BPFs, which include combining several BPFs [1–4], stepped-impedance resonators (SIRs) [58], and stub-loaded resonators (SLRs) [9–11]. In [1], the tri-band BPF is composed of eight sets of resonators, and the center frequencies can be easily placed in the proper position.…”

In [7, 8], SIRs are employed to provide more freedom to control the harmonics, and a 0 ° feeding structure is presented to improve the passband selectivity.…”

“…Planar filters have been widely used, such as coupled filters [1,2] and stepped-impedance resonators with transmission zeros [3,4]. They are attractive because of the planar structure and low fabrication cost.…”
