A novel tumor‐node‐metastasis (TNM) staging system of diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma using outcome analysis of a multi‐institutional database*

Abstract: A novel digital active homodyne demodulation scheme to eliminate the signal fading in interferometric fiber‐optic sensors is proposed. The error signal is obtained by the square‐wave phase modulation and then the digital correlation detection technique is applied to demodulate the low‐frequency environmental phase drift and generate the offset phase, which is then fed back the integrated optical phase modulator to lock the interferometer in quadrature. The high‐frequency signal phase can be read out and recove… Show more

“…10,[13][14][15] Consequently, various staging systems have been proposed to identify appropriate surgical candidates, stratify treatment regimens and more accurately predict prognosis. 43,44 Although the Figure 3 Kaplan-Meier curves compare the cumulative probability for progression-free survival and overall survival among peritoneal mesotheliomas with homozygous CDKN2A deletions (a and b, respectively) and hemizygous NF2 loss (c and d, respectively). Patients with both homozygous CDKN2A deletion and hemizygous NF2 loss had a shorter progression-free survival (e), and worse overall survival (f) than patients with alterations in either gene alone.…”

“…Another explanation can be that the patient presented a congenital mobile right colon, and the initial disease developed in the peritoneum in the right colic gutter. Moreover, in diffuse peritoneal mesothelioma there is the possibility of regional [13] or distant [14] lymph node metastasis, in our case the retroperitoneal tumour could have been an enlarged metastatic lymph node. This is unlikely, due to the dimension of the tumor and the description on histopathological examination.…”

“…Good prognostic indicators in our case included age less than 50, female gender localized disease and no lymph node metastases. [10] Our patient met all the criteria, and hence was treated with complete cytoreduction only. The 5-year survival with such treatment is around 90%.…”
