A novel use of light guides and wavelength shifting plates for the detection of scintillation photons in large liquid argon detectors

Abstract: Scintillation light generated as charged particles traverse large liquid argon detectors adds valuable information to studies of weakly-interacting particles. This paper uses both laboratory measurements and cosmic ray data from the Blanche dewar facility at Fermilab to characterize the efficiency of the photon detector technology developed at Indiana University for the single phase far detector of DUNE. The efficiency of this technology was found to be 0.48% at the readout end when the detector components wer… Show more

“…We tested six different configurations. The average efficiency considering the six tested ARAPUCAs is < ar ap >= 0.37 ± 0.01(sys) ± 0.03(stat)%, which is comparable to other devices with same purposes [8].…”

“…However, the prototype systems share many commonalities, and where such broader impact is appropriate, it will be noted here. Many of the results of this chapter have been published in Reference [102], and several figures are those used in said reference.…”

“…An vapor deposition method [13] is commonly used in TPB film fabrication, and the reference [14] proposes a spraying method. Since the vapor deposition method asks for the high vacuum and spraying method has no control on the film's thickness, we propose a fabrication of TPB film using the spin-coating method, which can act as an alternative option.…”
