A Novel ZnO/Co3O4 Nanoparticle for Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution under Visible Light Irradiation

Abstract: In recent years, ZnO/Co3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) have been reflected as typical of the most promising photocatalysts utilized in the field of photocatalysis for potentially solving energy shortages and environmental remediation. In this work, a novel ZnO/Co3O4 NP photocatalyst was fabricated and utilized for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution with visible light activity. ZnO/Co3O4 NPs display an improved photocatalytic hydrogen production rate of 3963 μmol/g through a five-hour test under visible light activity. … Show more

“…In Figure 9 a, the survey XPS spectra of ZnO and ZnO-AC identified chemical elements Zn, O, and C, reflecting comparable chemical compositions for the samples. The high-resolution Zn 2p core level in Figure 9 b illustrates the distinct Zn 2p 3/2 and Zn 2p 1/2 peaks of ZnO exhibited at BEs of 1022.5 and 1045.6 eV, respectively, signifying the Zn 2+ oxidation state [ 31 ]. Notably, there were no differences in these peaks between ZnO and ZnO-AC.…”

“…Additionally, research, such as [ 24 ], has delved into variations in photoelectric properties in Co 3 O 4 /ZnO samples with different concentrations of the cobalt precursor. Another study, [ 25 ], focused on synthesizing ZnO/Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles with varying cobalt contents. Considering these factors, the investigation of the photocatalytic properties of ZnO/Co 3 O 4 structures for water decomposition emerges as a highly relevant and unexplored avenue in the existing body of literature.…”
