As part of an effort to estabM'-.h the work potential fji/ of LHFBR fuel-coolant pairs under accident conditions, a series /\ of prompt burst energetics (PBE) experiments has been carried out at Sandia Laboratories. In the PBE series FCI's have been observed both between UO2 and Ma and between UC and Ka. As anticipated, FCI energetics are found to be greater for UC/Na. Preliminary conclusions from analyses of that series are reviewed herein. In addition to PBE analysis, work on modeling fuel frag mentation is briefly described. Finally, additional FCI-related experiments at Sandia are discussed. In particular a series of UT^/Na wetting experiments is planned to verify the hypothesis that wetting between these materials is due to formation of sodium uranate. Should this be the case, wetting may be sup pressed on prompt burst timescales.
