Cultural Heritage Area of Kampung Kapitan is a public open space tourist destination that is utilized by the community with various activities that cause different viewpoints in terms of comfort, design, interaction, and the meaning of the area. This study uses qualitative descriptive method that describes empirical phenomena such as aspects of function and aesthetics, elements of public space, safety and comfort through direct observation conditions of Kampung Kapitan. The purpose of this study is to analyze the open space in Kampung Kapitan as cultural heritage environment. Previous research revealed existence of open space has major influence from historical, characteristics of settled space, shape of building, cultural acculturation, natural potential, and tourist attraction to cultural heritage area. The results of the study inform that the influence of community activities makes the space as a place to socialize, tourist attraction, and an important role in the meaning of Kampung Kapitan that gives uniqueness of the villages in Palembang. Following the findings in this study provides positive and interesting perspectives on the cultural heritage environment seen from the open space aspect of Kampung Kapitan area so the meaning of environmental and building can be sustained.
