A one loop problem of the matrix big bang model

Abstract: We compute the one-loop effective action of two D0-branes in the matrix model for a cosmological background, and find vanishing static potential. However, there is a nonvanishing v 2 term not predicted in a supergravity calculation. This term is complex and signals an instability of the two D0-brane system, it may also indicate that the matrix model is incorrect. Dec. 2005

“…In the absence of pp waves this indeed happens [83,84] and one would expect that the same would be true in the presence of pp waves. However, as found in [83,84] and emphasized in [84] the potential vanishes at early times (as expected) as well as at late times. This suggests that standard perturbative string physics is indeed recovered at late times.…”

“…One of the consequences of this is that a potential for the fields X a could be generated which spoils the interpretation in terms of space-time coordinates. This issue has been investigated in [29] and [30]. Indeed there is a potential at one loop.…”

“…7 See [40] for an interesting approach to find signatures of space-like singularities inside AdS black holes in the CFT The equations of motion (30) then require that the dilaton is also a function of x + alone. The dilaton equation (31) is automatically satisfied, while (30) simplifies to…”
