“…Polyvinyl chloride (PVC, SG5) was produced by Xinjiang Tianye Group Co., Ltd. (Shihezi, China) Arginine (Arg, 98%) was supplied by Shanghai Macklin Biochemical Technology Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China) Zinc acetate (Zn(Ac) 2 , 97%), Dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP, AR), dioctyl phthalate (DOP, AR), trimethyl citrate (TMC, AR), triethyl citrate (TEC, AR), acetyl triethyl citrate (ATEC, AR), tributyl citrate (TBC, AR), ethanol (99.5%) purchased from Aladdin Reagent (Shanghai, China) Co., Ltd. Zinc arginine [Zn(Arg) 2 ] was produced according to our previous research [ 31 ].…”

“…There are other proposed methods to test HCl absorption by thermal stabilizers too. Chen et al [ 66 ] reported a procedure by which thermal stabilizers were put in a three‐necked flask with a continuous dry HCl gas inflow at 180°C for 2 h in an oil bath. Residual HCl was eliminated by heating HCl‐treated thermal stabilizers in a vacuum oven at 75°C for 12 h. Finally, both treated and untreated stabilizers were separately dissolved in distilled water, followed by magnetic stir and filtration.…”

“…The good flame retardancy of zinc compounds in flexible PVC is attributed to the mechanism that zinc compounds can react with hydrogen chloride (HCl) decomposed from flexible PVC to give zinc chloride (ZnCl 2 ), which belongs to a kind of strong Lewis acid that can further accelerate the dehydrochlorination and promote the formation of char residues of flexible PVC 10,11 . But the massive accumulation of undesirable ZnCl 2 is easy to result in “zinc burning,” which can cause rapid darkening of flexible PVC thus deteriorating the thermal stability 12–14 …”
