A Parametric Product Design Framework for the Development of Mass Customized Head/Face (Eyewear) Products

Abstract: This study led to the development of a parametric design method for mass-customised head/face products. A systematic review of different approaches for mass customization was conducted, identifying advantages and limitations for their application to new product development. A parametric modelling algorithm of a 3D human face was developed using selected scanned 3D head models. The algorithm was developed from a set of measurable and adjustable parameter points related to the facial geometry. These parameters w… Show more

“…Another study of three-dimensional human face morphologies in 2010 provided 47 landmarks for proper spectacle frame sizing, particularly involving the complex rear-ear points [ 3 ]. In 2021 Bai created formulas between 12 eyeglass design parameters and 18 facial features for improving the design of eyeglasses [ 7 ].…”

“…In the process of multimode interaction design of technological products, the hybrid coordination structure is mainly composed of the planning layer and the behavior perception layer, and the results can be used to achieve indepth analysis of the relationship between tasks, designers, and behaviors [17]. Task planning includes the assignment of tasks among designers and the decomposition and refinement of each designer's respective tasks; thus generating a series of subtasks, then dividing the completion process of each subtask in detail, and using finite state machine (FSM) for designers in the process of technology products multimodal interaction design to complete the task by the state sequence were analyzed, and the related design task planning is by a series of discrete states in a certain sequence, and each state contains several basic behaviors.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, this study firstly defines the product configurator based on the customer perceived value; the experimental results show that this mechanism can achieve a satisfactory precision and a recall rate and has good efficiency and validity. Bai et al [38] develop a parametric design method for mass customisation in the context of customised eyewear production. A digital face model is constructed by 3-D scanning of the head/face, and a parametric modelling algorithm is proposed.…”
