A path-based solution approach for the Green Vehicle Routing Problem

Abstract: The Green Vehicle Routing Problem aims routing Alternative Fuel Vehicles, based at a depot, minimizing the total travel distance. Each vehicle handles a subset of customers, leaving from and returning to the depot, respecting a maximum duration and a distance traveled without refuels. We propose a two phases exact approach, composing each route through two/more paths. Each path serves a subset of customers without intermediate refuels. Dominance rules limit the number of feasible paths. Our approach, tested on… Show more

“…Basso et al (2019) worked on electric VRP which involves path details like speed profile and topography to estimate energy demand. Recently, Bruglieri et al (2019) extended the green VRP with path selection decisions. They imposed a maximum duration constraint on vehicle routes and assumed that fuel consumption is proportionate to travel distance with an input constant rate.…”

“…A myriad of type of time window based on GVRP is implemented by applying the heuristic methods (Bruglieri et al 2019 ; Kucukoğlu et al 2015 ; Niu et al 2018 ; Pradenas et al 2013 ; Qian and Eglese 2016 ; Xiao and Konak 2015 ; Giallanza and Puma 2020 ). Likewise, an abundance of heuristic algorithms is existent for the VRP systems (Solano-Charris et al 2015 ) like the memory structure adjusted simulated meta-heuristic algorithm adopted by Kucukoğlu et al ( 2015 ).…”

“…Some of the research only has one or single objective. One of the objectives that usually being considered in GVRP is to minimize total travel distance [8,21,36,37,38,39,40,41,42]. Some of the research claimed that by minimizing total travel distance could give an indirect effect to reduce the operating cost.…”
