A performance evaluation framework for network admission control methods

Abstract: In this paper we introduce the notion of link and network admission control (LAC, NAC) and present three fundamentally different budget based NAC methods which categorize most of today's implemented NAC approaches. We propose a performance evaluation framework for their comparison. The required network capacity for each method is dimensioned for a certain flow blocking probability and the average resource utilization is taken as performance measure. We point out several implementation options and investigate t… Show more

“…The traffic model is set up as follows: for simplicity and comparability to [14] each service was set at a constant rate in multiples of 64kbps. The VoIP services are set to 128kbps (factor of 2), the video services to 2560 kbps (factor of 40).…”

“…This section briefly summarizes the budget-based network admission control methods introduced in [14]. There are four general budget-based network admission control methods, Link based Budget NAC (LBNAC), Ingress/Egress based Budget NAC (IB/EBNAC), Border-to-Border Budget NAC (BBBNAC), and Ingress/Egress Link based Budget NAC (ILB/ELBNAC).…”
