A Planar Inductively Coupled Bow-Tie Slot Antenna for WLAN Application

Abstract: A CPW-fed inductively coupled bow-tie slot antenna is introduced. The bandwidth reduction for an inductively coupled straight-dipole slot is overcome by utilizing a bow-tie slot. Antennas operating at 2.45 and 5.5 GHz are proposed that have 10 dB return loss bandwidths of 12% and 17%, respectively. Prototype antenna elements and a two-element series-fed array were fabricated and tested to validate performance.

“…In order to satisfy the IEEE 802.11 WLAN standards in the 2.4/5.2/5.8 GHz operating bands and the WiMAX standards in the 2.5/3.5/5.5 GHz bands, multiband antennas with large impedance bandwidth and excellent radiation characteristic are required. For this, many promising dualor multiband antennas for WLAN/WiMAX applications such as the meander antennas [1][2][3], the slot antennas [4][5][6], the ring patch antennas [7,8], and the planar inverted-F antennas (PIFAs) [9][10][11] have been studied. However, most of them are either complex in physical structure or large in overall size for practical applications.…”
