A pounding spacer damper and its application on transmission line subjected to fluctuating wind load

Abstract: In this paper, a new pounding spacer damper (PSD) is proposed, and the control effect on the transmission line under the fluctuating wind load is validated. At first, the schematic of the proposed PSD is provided, and the mechanical models of elastic, damping, and pounding forces are then obtained. After that, the dynamic equations of transmission line equipped with the PSD are derived. On the basis, the finite element model of transmission line-PSD system with the ANSYS software is established, and the poundi… Show more

“…Lin et al [65] analyzed the vibration reduction effect of the PTMD and multiple PTMDs (MPTMDs) on the basis of a modified pounding force model [66]. Furthermore, in order to control the wind-induced response of the transmission tower, Fu et al [67] devised a new pounding spacer damper (PSD). More recently, a bidirectional PTMD [68] and a damper with zero distance from the tuned mass to the collision boundary [69] have been presented.…”

“…To date, scholars have continued to study the conductor damping method according to energy conservation principles . And many kinds of damper are used for reducing the vibration of the conductor . Although these theoretical studies provide a basis for vibration reduction in the wire, the phenomenon of wire breakage still occurs, and sometimes, the damper will detach.…”

“…Passive control system is to dissipate seismic energy through the energy‐dissipating devices attached to the structures 8 . Due to its simple construction, low cost, convenient maintenance, and no external energy requirement, the devices (or dampers) have been widely used to mitigate the dynamic response of building structures 9–14 …”
