A predictive method for crude oil volatile organic compounds emission from soil: evaporation and diffusion behavior investigation of binary gas mixtures

Abstract: Due to their mobility and toxicity, crude oil volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are representative components for oil pipeline contaminated sites detection. Therefore, contaminated location risk assessment, with airborne light detection and ranging (LIDAR) survey, in particular, requires ground-based determinative methods for oil VOCs, the interaction between oil VOCs and soil, and information on how they diffuse from underground into atmosphere. First, we developed a method for determination of crude oil VOC … Show more

“…However, only a few studies have focused on analysing the major mechanisms of CVEs and their influential parameters under different conditions such as water soluble fraction of HCs in crude oil contaminated soil , ocean oil spillage and contaminated lands . The majority of these studies are associated with the fate of VOC emissions from petroleum industry in which VOCs emitted from various stages of crude oil processing including exploration, extraction, and production DeLuchi, 1993;Papailias and Mavroidis, 2018;, storage (DeLuchi, 1993;Theophanides et al, 2007), transportation (de Vos et al, 2007;DeLuchi, 1993;Howard and Nikolas, 2001;Karbasian et al, 2017;Lee and Chang, 2014;Lee et al, 2013;Martens et al, 2001;Milazzo et al, 2017;Paulauskiene et al, 2008;Sani and Mohanty, 2008;Tamaddoni et al, 2014), refineries Lin and Lee, 2006;Ragothaman and Anderson, 2017;Wei et al, 2014b;Zargar et al, 2013;Zhang et al, 2017c;, offshore Han et al, 2007;Müller and Sedláčková, 2003;Schädle et al, 2014;Uhler et al, 2010; and onshore activities (Almudhhi, 2016;Lawlor et al, 1997;Moyer et al, 1994;Müller and Sedláčková, 2003;Soukup et al, 2007;Wang et al, 2015a;Wang et al, 2015b; as well as accidental spillages.
