A Preliminary Investigation on Plasma Cell Adhesion Molecules Levels by Protein Microarray Technology in Major Depressive Disorder

Abstract: Objectives: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a serious mental disorder, and there is a great difficulty to diagnose and treat. Hitherto, relatively few studies have explored the correlation between the levels of plasma cell adhesion molecules and MDD.Methods: Thirty outpatients with acute episodes of MDD in Shanghai Mental Health Center and 34 healthy volunteers from the community were recruited as subjects. Protein microarray technology was applied to compared the differences in plasma levels of 17 kinds of… Show more

“…In addition, loss of cln3 ( Huber et al, 2017 ) or cln5 ( Huber and Mathavarajah, 2018b ) in D. discoideum causes adhesion defects. Increased NRCAM levels have been reported in the blood plasma of patients diagnosed major depressive disorder ( Liu et al, 2021 ), and the function of NRCAM has been associated with Alzheimer's disease ( Hu et al, 2010 ). However, recent work suggests that NRCAM is not a suitable CSF biomarker for differentiating between different forms of dementia ( Müller et al, 2015 ); therefore, its use as an NCL biomarker requires further evaluation.…”

“…However, only a few studies on a topic are present. Only recently, Liu et al [ 40 ] documented increased levels of Carcinoembryonic Antigen Related Cell Adhesion Molecule-1 (CEACAM-1) and Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule (NCAM) in plasma of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Learning and memory –involve a vast array of CAMs [ 12 , 22 , 29 ]; therefore, we will present only selected examples here.…”
