In this paper, Cu-doped carbon quantum dots (Cu-CQDs) were prepared by carrying out thermolysis of Na 2 [Cu(EDTA)] and hydroxylamine hydrochloride at 300 °C for 2 h. The asprepared Cu-CQDs were characterized by UV-Vis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Cu-CQDs exhibited good fluorescence property, high stability, excitationdependent emission behavior and a quantum yield of 9.8%. More significantly, the synthesized Cu-CQDs were developed for sensing rutin (RT) based on the fluorescence quenching of the prepared Cu-CQDs. A good linear relationship between the fluorescence quenching of Cu-CQDs and different concentrations of RT was obtained in the range of 0.1-15 μg mL -1 with a correlation coefficient of 0.9959. The detection limit was as low as 0.05 μg mL -1 (signal-to-noise ratio, S/N = 3). The possible mechanism of fluorescence quenching was explored, which was proved to be inner filter effect. Importantly, the proposed method was successfully applied in the detection of RT tablet samples and with satisfactory results, showing the practical applications.Keywords: Cu-doped carbon quantum dots, rutin, Na 2 [Cu(EDTA)], fluorescence sensors Rutin tablet samples pretreatment 10 pieces of rutin tablets were ground to powder in a mortar, and 10 mg of the powder was dissolved in 25 mL of ethanol. Acridino-Diaza-20-Crown-6 Ethers: New Macrocyclic Hosts for Optochemical Metal Ion Sensing

Acridino-diaza-20-crown-6 ether derivatives as new turn-on type fluorescent chemosensors with an excellent functionality and photophysical properties have been designed and synthesized for metal ion-selective optochemical sensing applications. Spectroscopic studies revealed that in an acetonitrile-based semi-aqueous medium, the sensor molecules exhibited a remarkable fluorescence enhancement with high sensitivity only toward Zn2+, Al3+ and Bi3+, among 23 different metal ions. Studies on complexation showed a great coordinating ability of logK > 4.7 with a 1:1 complex stoichiometry in each case. The detection limits were found to be from 59 nM to micromoles. The new ionophores enabled an optical response without being affected either by the pH in the range of 5.5–7.5, or the presence of various anions or competing metal ions. Varying the N-substituents of the new host-backbone provides diverse opportunities in both immobilization and practical applications without influencing the molecular recognition abilities.

Two novel highly selective fluorescent sensors L‐1 and L‐2 for the determination of Al3+ ion were synthesized and characterized. The sensors acridine‐4,5‐diylbismethyl(bis(oxy))bis(2,1‐phenylene))bis‐(methylene))bis(azanediyl))bis(3‐phenylpropan‐1‐ol) (L‐1) and 2,2′‐acridine‐4,5‐diylbis(methylene(bis(oxy))bis(2,1‐phenylene))bis‐(methylene))bis(azanediyl))bis(propan‐1‐ol) (L‐2) showed “turn on” fluorescence response in the presence of Al3+ ion in DMSO/tris‐HCl (1:1, v:v, pH=7.2) buffer solution. Other cations viz. Li+, Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Fe2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Mn2+, Ba2+, Pb2+, Hg2+, Fe3+ and Eu3+ ions showed no appreciable change in fluorescence spectrum. The detection limits of L‐1 and L‐2 for Al3+ ion were at the parts per billion level. In addition, possible utilization of sensors as bio‐imaging fluorescent sensors to detect Al3+ in human cervical HeLa cells was also investigated by confocal fluorescence microscopy.
