“…Subjective moderate/excellent improvement was reported in 70-92% of patients suffering from III-and IV-degree HD [81,84]. Recurrence of prolapse is currently 15% at 1 year in unselected II degree [81,86]; meanwhile, the failure rate at 1 year was reported to be, respectively, 25% and 80% in III-degree HD patients treated with ALTA and 5% phenol in almond oil [81,82].…”

“…29,30 Long-term durability varies; 20%-53% of patients are symptom free 4 years after sclerotherapy. 31,32 With the simplicity and safety of sclerotherapy, these rates may be acceptable in patients considered high risk for other procedures. Several sessions may be needed for best effect; the surgeon must be mindful of avoiding stricture.…”

“…Good results are shown also for III degree but data are reported only by case series. A prospective study showed an overall prolapses' improvement in 100% of patients (46), while Yano reported 52% of improvement of prolapse in III degree (43). Miyamoto and Tokunaka in their case series showed an improvement for IV degree, too (44,49).…”
