A Pushover Seismic Analysis and Retrofitting Method Applied to Low-Rise RC School Buildings

Abstract: The proposed method, called the Taiwan Earthquake Assessment for Structures by Pushover Analysis (TEASPA), is a modified capacity spectrum method developed in the NCREE handbook after the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake. In this study, the evaluation of TEASPA is carried out using results from an experimental campaign comprised of two pushover tests inlow-rise reinforced concrete (RC) school buildings and the ASCE 41 capacity spectrum method. In addition, three problems related to retrofitting design are also discusse… Show more

“…Evaluation of structural elements in existing buildings needs to be carried out regularly to improve the earthquake resistance [1][2][3][4]. This awareness is increased due to the earthquake history, which resulted in deaths of people and collapses of buildings, and led to the need for the strengthening system on existing buildings [5][6][7].…”

“…The collapsed buildings typically exhibit damaged beam-column joints (BCJs), compounded by the non-ductile reinforcing details in columns. Consequently, the existing buildings need to be investigated to enhance their earthquake resistance (Gao et al, 2021; Hidayat et al, 2019; Hsiao et al, 2015; Liou et al, 2002).…”

“…The hinges are flexural, shear and axial load characteristics. These represent the localized force-displacement relationships through elastic and inelastic ranges under seismic loads. The effects of plastic hinge properties in nonlinear analysis of buildings are studied [8].Pushover analysis with column retrofitting of the school buildings was demonstrated in [9]. The effects of providing additional reinforcement in beams and columns near beam-column joints are examined [10].…”
