“…In this study, the use of cocopeat CP and rice hull studied as these materials are widely used in bioreactors and as biosorbents Anirudhan et al, 2008;Chuah et al, 2005;El-Shafey, 2007;Namasivayam and Sureshkumar, 2008;Wan Ngah and Hanafiah, 2008 . This characteristic of the biocarriers increases the probability of the bacterial cells to be in contact with the hydrocarbon substrate, an important factor for efficient degradation. Furthermore, both organic carriers are known to contain high amounts of phosphorus and nitrogenous nutrients Abad et al, 2002;Abbas et al, 2012;Hernandez-Apaolaza and Guerrero, 2008 which may enhance growth of the indigenous and added oildegrading cells. When the formulated bacterial consortium was encapsulated into sodium alginate gel, there was lag in the oil degrading activity: significant reduction was only observed after 60 days.…”

“…A large quantities of crop residues are wasted annually, either through field burning after harvest or in industrial processes during refining, such as with husks and bran (Abbas et al, 2012;Cardoen et al, 2015). Numerous organic sources of nutrients can be generated but utilizing agricultural waste such as rice residues, paddy husk ash and potato peel.…”

“…A huge amount of crop residues are wasted annually either by burning in the field (after harvest) or in the industry during the refining process (husk and bran) ( Abbas et al, 2012 ). Around 40% of N, 35% P, 85% K, and 45% S taken up by the rice plants remain in vegetative parts ( Dobermann and Fairhurst, 2002 ), which can be reused to nourish soil and plants ( Tahir et al, 2006 ) or reutilized in the industry ( Calabi–Floody et al, 2018 ).…”
