A quasi-three-level dual-wavelength thin-disk laser at 1024 and 1030 nm based on a diode-pumped Yb:YAG crystal

Abstract: A diode-end-pumped Yb:YAG dual-wavelength continuous-wave (cw) laser that generates simultaneous laser action at wavelengths of 1024 and 1030 nm is demonstrated for the first time. A total output power of 897 mW for the dual-wavelength was achieved at an incident pump power of 17.8 W. Furthermore, intracavity sum-frequency mixing at 1024 and 1030 nm was then realized in an LBO crystal to reach the green range. We obtained a total cw output power of 85 mW at 513.5 nm.

“…In recent years simultaneous emission at dual wavelengths has been of interest for practical applications in medical instrumentation and research on nonlinear optical mixers, in particular, terahertz (THz) wave generation [1][2][3]. Dualwavelength operation has been realized in many laser systems, such as Nd:YLF [1][2][3], Nd:YAG [4][5][6][7][8][9][10], Nd:YAP [11], Nd:CNGG [12], Nd:YVO4 [13], Nd:GdVO4 [14][15][16], and Yb:YAG [17,18]. Nd:GGG is suitable for a diode-pumped solid-state laser (DPSSL) owing to its merits of good thermal conductivity, good mechanical properties, low threshold power and broad absorption band near 808 nm.…”
