A Radio Survey of the SMC at 843 MHz with the MOST: I. The Survey

Abstract: Abstract:A radio survey at a frequency of 843 MHz of 36 square degrees containing the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) has been made with the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope (MOST). The angular resolution is around 45 arcsec and the rms noise is about 1 mJy per beam. The radio image of the region is presented showing over a thousand sources with a variety of angular sizes from unresolved to 10 arcmin. Most of the sources are presumed to be background objects but about 70 of the more extended sources are H… Show more

“…In addition to the ATCA+Parkes surveys, we also searched the 843 MHz Sydney University Molonglo Sky Survey [SUMSS; resolution ∼45 arcsec, sensitivity ∼2 mJy; Bock, Large & Sadler 1999] for sources co‐incident with known catalogued PNe. We also searched the specific MOlonglo Synthesis Telescope (MOST) observations of the SMC presented by Turtle et al (1998).…”

“…Wong et al (2012) studied compact H ii regions in the SMC. Archive images were used at 3, 6, 13, 20 and 36 cm Filipovic et al 2002;Turtle et al 1998) plus images from the area near LHA 115-N 77 from Ye et al (1995). Additional images from near LHA 115-N 19 were used including ATCA images from array configurations of 375-m, 1.5D, 6C, 6B and 750A.…”

“…In addition we make use of the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope (MOST) SMC survey at 36 cm (843 MHz) (Turtle et al 1998). The beam size for these observations ranges from 7 to 45 .…”
