Abstract:We included in a controlled study 38 consecutive patients aged up to 75 with newly diagnosed cancer of the prostate suitable for hormonal treatment (stage C-D). Patients were randomized to receive either flutamide and orchidectomy or flutamide alone. After 4 years the survival rate for the orchidectomy plus flutamide group (53%) appears to be better than for the group with flutamide alone (40%).
