The Spencer-Lewis/SMART scattering formulation of particle transport was developed for charged particles. Here we apply this model to neutron transport problems with high forward scattering anisotropy and small energy losses per collision. A three-dimensional transport solver has been developed that uses SMART scattering matrices and combines the Spencer-Lewis continuous slowing down (CSD) model with the classical multigroup approach. The SMART scattering matrices enable us to simulate extreme scattering anisotropy with relatively few discrete directions (typically S6), and in addition, they reduce enormously the required number of source iterations. Small energy losses are well modeled by the Spencer-Lewis approach, which has the continuous slowing approximation (CSDA) built in. 4 3
