A Rare Case of Ventral Hernia

Abstract

Abstract:Ventral hernia is an uncommon cause of common presentation of abdominal lump. It is a potentially treatable cause but associated with high risk of morbidity and mortality if there is delay in diagnosis and intervention. We report a case of a forty five year old male with an irreducible swelling in right side of abdomen with irreducible bowel loops through a wall defect in anterior abdomen. He was found to have Spigelian hernia which is a rare cause of abdominal wall hernias and is associated with delayed diagnosis and early bowel gangrene. High index of suspicion can prevent catastrophe. This case report intends to share this rare case of hernia and to sensitize the readers about its presentation and surgery.
