“…The bathymetric surveys are used to directly measure sediment deposited in lakes and reservoirs, with many procedures being introduced for water depth measurements. Murray and Pullar presented a lead-lining recorder method for water depth measured using a winch system which was used in Loch Earn in the Grampian Highlands of Scotland (Al-Ansari & McManus 1980). Weighted wire drag survey methods were introduced in 1904, and acoustic depth sounding (fathometer) was used in the 1930 (USACE 2004;NOAA 2012).…”

“…It occupies a steepsided but largely flat-floored basin which has a maximum depth of 87.2 m and shelves eastwards . In their 1973 bathymetric survey of the loch Al-Ansari and McManus (1980) found only very minor changes when comparing their chart with that produced from a survey in 1902 by Murray and Pullar (1910). Moreover, the changes observed could mainly be attributed to the use of more advanced surveying techniques.…”

“…However, sediment yields of this order have been determined in several nearby upland catchments devoted to rough grazing ( J. McManus, personal communication) thus lending support to its validity. The much higher regional value of 180 tonneskm-' yr-', from which the loch bed accretion rate was derived by Al-Ansari and McManus (1980), relates to a catchment incorporating substantial areas of land devoted to arable farming which tend to yield much higher quantities of sediment (J. McManus, personal communication).…”

“…Surface navigational information is provided by bathymetric survey charts, which are created to support the safety of surface or sub-surface navigations. These charts often depict seafloor relief or terrain as contour lines, or depth contours [1,2]. The survey settings for the best description of the topographical aspects of the submarine, which may include more accurate slope corrections and sound velocity, while removing safety bias [3].…”
