Patient and family-centered care has become a focus in health services. Social work has a rich history of providing responsive patient care. This study identified the contribution and value of social work to PFCC from the key stakeholder perspectives of health social workers (n = 65). Utilizing interpretive description, four themes emerged: (1) Thinking big and holistically, (2) Intervening with families, (3) Enabling patient and family coping, and (4) Maximizing hospital and community resources. Barriers included a lack of power, professional isolation and role creep. Implications for research and practice are provided.

ResumenEn este artículo de reflexión se analizan los aspectos metodológicos y epistemológi-cos de artículos derivados de investigación cualitativa sobre el fenómeno de vivir con una terapia de sustitución de la función renal (TSFR), publicados durante los últimos años. La reflexión emerge como parte de un metaestudio sobre las TSFR. Para ello, se describen cada una de las etapas del metaestudio y algunos hallazgos que sirven para ilustrar las contradicciones y los vacíos de las publicaciones, a luz de las premisas del paradigma cualitativo de investigación. En términos generales, este análisis pone en tensión los procesos de investigación cualitativa, y su publicación, sobre las experiencias de personas en TSFR, ya que se reproducen procesos de lo cuantitativo y, sobre todo, porque se conceptualiza la salud, la enfermedad y a las personas desde la lógica positivista.Palabras clave: investigación cualitativa; métodos; metodología; práctica clínica basada en la evidencia; conocimiento Epistemological and Methodological Reflections about Qualitative Health Research on the Renal Replacement Therapy AbstractThe purpose of this reflection article is to analyze the methodological and epistemological aspects of qualitative research in recently published articles based on the phenomenon of living with a renal replacement therapy (RRT). The reflection emerges as part of a meta-study on RRT. For this purpose, each of the stages of the meta-study are described as well as some findings that illustrate the contradictions and gaps in publications, in the light of the premises of qualitative research paradigm. In general terms, this analysis creates tension in processes of qualitative research, their publication, on the experiences of people in RRT, since qualitative processes are reproduced and, above all, because health, disease and people are conceptualized from the logical positivism.

To support evidence-based practice changes in long-term care, we used a practice development approach with interactive workshops to engage teams from 10 organizations in participatory change. Data from postworkshop surveys and subsequent semistructured interviews indicated that participants felt empowered to identify a priority challenge and initiate change. Notably, the workshop intervention enhanced collaboration between professional and unregulated staff, fostered the development of shared vision, and provided the impetus to tackle workplace barriers to change.
