A Reconnaissance Geophysical Survey of the Kawartha Lakes and Lake Simcoe, Ontario

Abstract: A marine geophysical survey program has been conducted in lakes of southern Ontario. The survey was designed to detect neotectonic features, if they exist, and to evaluate their geological importance. High-resolution single- and multichannel seismic reflection profiling were used to delineate late- and post-glacial sedimentary strata and structures, as well as the sediment/bedrock interface, in the Kawartha Lakes and Lake Simcoe. Results show that two seismostratigraphic sequences are common within the unconso… Show more

“…Most studies have been conducted in the European Alps and the mid-continent of North America (e.g. Finckh et al, 1984;Todd and Lewis, 1993;Moore et al, 1994;Mullins et al, 1996;Van Rensbergen et al, 1998, 1999Eyles et al, 2003). Fewer such studies have been conducted in the western and northwestern part of North America (Eyles et al, , 2000Mullins et al, 1990Mullins et al, , 1991Eyles and Mullins, 1997) despite an abundance of glacial lakes.…”
