“…OGTT is an important index for the evaluation of beta cell function while ITT indicates the insulin sensitivity [57]. The impairment in glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity during T2DM is reported to be improved by metformin treatment [40, 58]. In the present study, the co-occurring condition impaired glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity.…”

“…We previously reported that JQ-R could improve insulin resistance in HFD-induced obesity mouse model, C57BL/6J mice (HFD-C57mice), and found that JQ-R could increase insulin sensitivity by activating the AMPK signaling pathway in liver in this animal model 7 . We also speculated that JQ-R might improve systemic insulin sensitivity via multiple tissues and pathways in different animal and cell models.…”

“…It was shown that alkaloids/saponins/polyhydric alcohols at the weight ratio of 15/10/5 achieved an optimal anti-diabetic effect in hyperglycemic and insulin-resistant mice 7 . This ratio was used in this study.…”

“…Radix Astragali is the main herb in many ready-made Chinese medicines for diabetes mellitus, such as the JinQi-Jiangtang tablet [15, 18], and its effective components are considered to be beneficial for diabetes mellitus [1921]. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments [22, 23] have shown that SR10, an herbal formulation consisting of the aqueous extracts of Radix Astragali , Radix Codonopsis , and barbary wolfberry fruit ( Fructus Lycii ), appears to reduce the apoptosis of streptozotocin-treated pancreatic β-cells and decrease blood glucose levels in a mouse model of type-2 diabetes mellitus through its antioxidative effects.…”
