A reflective-backing-free metamaterial absorber with broadband response

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a polarization-independent and broadband perfect infrared (IR) metamaterial absorber (MA) without reflective backing. The proposed absorber is a periodic meta-atom array consisting of metal-dielectric-multilayer truncated cones which can absorb 80% EM wave from 50.70 to 81.87 THz, while transmit 80% EM wave from 0 to 37.71 THz. With the decreasing of frequency, the transmissivity increases, which is close to 100% from 0 to 5 THz. We can broaden the absorption bandwidth of the MA by ca… Show more

“…The emergence and development of metamaterials has brought a turning point to the research on multi-band compatible stealth [12][13][14][15]. The problems which cannot be solved by traditional materials can be solved by metamaterials, which also shed some light on the research on infrared radar compatible stealth [16][17][18]. * Authors to whom any correspondence should be addressed.…”

“…Recently, curve altitude pyramid structures that utilize the curve line as the pyramid's hypotenuse have been proposed to broaden the absorption bandwidth. 27 However, compared with the multilayer pyramid MA, the curve altitude pyramid structure needs larger height and size, causing difficulty in practical applications.…”
