This article analyses the role of spatial effects on the productive growth of Spanish agri-food cooperatives. The study was based on a sample data from 172 Spanish cooperatives for the period 2010–2012. We applied the Malmquist productivity index method to compute the productivity growth and its components. We then developed a multi-equational productivity growth model with spatial effects. Our results show that the productivity growth in agri-food cooperatives depends on the geographical location of the company and its interaction with its neighbours. This analysis supports the importance of taking into account the spatial dimension when regional agri-food policies are designed, particularly, for cooperatives characterized by the inter-cooperation principle.

This chapter summarizes understanding of the impact of the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) upon rural and agricultural jobs by reviewing the published literature on this topic over the past 30 years. It considers policy modifications over the period in which these studies were conducted, and how these changes are likely to have affected the overall pattern and balance of CAP impacts upon rural jobs, within and beyond the farm sector. This chapter starts by summarizing the intervention logic of CAP instruments in order to anticipate the kinds of impact that such policies might generate, and to consider how they would vary in time and space. After describing the methodological approach for the literature review, some patterns that emerged in the literature are discussed in order to illustrate the link between predicted theoretical outcomes and actual employment outcomes.

Motivation for this research was the need to perceive the relations among actors involved in the rural-forest policy networks. The problem of an objective analysis of formal and informal power and information flow structure measurement and visualization in policy-making is tried to be solved. The policy network of "Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park" is used as a case study as it includes a great variety of actors. An answer to the much-discussed problem of digital perception of politico-administrative power are in part the results about: (1) how complexity of policy making can be measured and what this practically means, (2) who controls the communication, (3) where the most important information resources are located, and (4) who is most trustworthy in this network. It is concluded that: "Important" information is not a source of trust, but rather inversely, through trust one can impose information as being important. Between actors of relatively high trust status, the most trusted one does not need to control information in order to strengthen its position. A less trusted actor may supplement the lack of power status with information control. The leading role that forestry sector may play even in cross-sectoral issues is pointed out in this case study.
