A Report on Metal Forming Technology Transfer from Expert to Industry for Improving Production Efficiency

Abstract: This article reports on technological mastery assistance in three small metal forming industries in Indonesia. Problems in the blangking and piercing separately process caused increased production time which resulted in inefficiency cost. Therefore, the expert team aided in metal forming technology through participatory action research (PAR) methods and experimental methods through reverse engineering for several products. The PAR method involves optimal contribution and participation from the industry. Assist… Show more

“…SKD 11 was chosen for die and punch due to its higher mechanical properties than the workpiece material. Wire cut electro-discharge machining (WC-EDM) was used to create SKD 11, then hardened [5]. The hardness of the SKD material after heat treatment was around 55-58 HRC.…”

“…SUS 316 sheet metal material for SF without welding was thought to reduce weld damage and speed up the procurement process. These could be processed by punch and die metal forming processing [5]. Sheet metal forming is a combination of elastic-plastic bending and workpiece strain deformation [6][7].…”

“…PAR is a research methodology that strongly emphasizes the active involvement of the community being studied in the research process. It prioritizes participation, action, and research from the community itself [17]. The PAR method highlights two key aspects: collaborative research and experiments that stem from practical experience.…”

“…Personal protection equipment such as masks, glasses, and gloves should follow the material safety data sheet is also implemented and strictly controlled. Healthy protocols are also followed by established regulations to prevent the transmission and spread of Covid-19 (Khoirudin et al, 2021). The experiment setup used measuring tools and instruments, including beakers, glass, digital calipers, and scales.…”
