A respiratory current in the mantle cavity ofAmphibola crenata(Mollusca, Pulmonata).

Abstract: During periods of immersion, a stream of water is maintained through the mantle cavity of Amphibola by the activity of a special epithelium, the ciliated band. Calculations indicate that this stream is sufficient for the respiratory needs of the snail. The ciliated band may also contribute to osmoregulation by the active uptake of ions in dilute media.
