A retrospective evaluation of adverse reactions to trimethoprim‐sulphonamide combinations in dogs and cats

Abstract: when mechanical head-cutters were introduced during the experiment, because the head is cut at the position of the transponder. Because of this, the transponder was retrieved after the carcasses were scalded. An alternative location such as in the auricle of the pig (7,8) could be considered with a smaller transponder. This would result in a later retrieval while still satisfying the same requirements. ConclusionsThe percentage non-reading of transponders at retrieval was significantly higher than the requirem… Show more

“…For these UTIs a prolonged treatment period of four weeks is recommended (Pressler and Bartges 2010, Weese and others 2011). With TMS administration for longer than seven days, there is an increased risk of idiosyncratic and immune-mediated adverse effects (Noli and others 1995, Weese and others 2011). Secondly, palatability and ease of administration are particular important factors in cats that influence compliance of pet owners.…”

“…Idiosyncratic toxicity reactions to sulfonamides are, by definition, relatively uncommon events. In one retrospective study of dogs and cats referred to the University of Utrecht, an overall incidence of 0.25% (2.5 cases per 1000 prescriptions) was estimated (Noli et al. , 1995).…”

“…These have adverse reactions in elderly patients including severe skin reactions, generalized bone marrow suppression and decreased platelets (Agarwal, 1992). Moreover, these have gastrointestinal side effects (Bulgin et al, 1991), hypersensitivity side effects (Noli et al, 1995), hematologic side effects (Weiss and Adams, 1987), renal side effects (Duffee et al, 1984) and hepatic side effects (Twedt et al, 1997).…”
