A review in gait rehabilitation devices and applied control techniques

Abstract: With this exhaustive review, we can conclude that the degree of complexity of the rehabilitation device influences in short and long-term therapeutic results since the movements become more controlled. However, there is still a lot of work in the sense of motion control in order to perform trajectories that are more alike the natural movements of humans. There are many control techniques in other areas, which seek to improve the performance of the process. These techniques may possibly be applicable in gait re… Show more

“…According to multiple studies, conventional assistive devices, such as canes, crutches, rollators, manual wheelchairs, ambulatory training machines, and passive orthoses, improve people’s quality of life [ 10 , 11 ]. These solutions have proven to help overcome and compensate for people’s physical limitations by maintaining or improving individuals’ functioning and independence in clinical and everyday scenarios [ 12 , 13 ]. Regarding the walking frames or walkers, these devices improve overall balance by increasing the patient’s base of support, enhancing lateral stability, and providing weight-bearing [ 14 ].…”

“…Although these populations may be represented by different types of disability, mobility impairments have been identified as a common condition in elderly populations and people with functioning and cognitive disabilities [5,11,12]. Considering this, several rehabilitation and assistance devices have been developed to retrain, empower or provide the affected or residual locomotion capacities [13].…”

“…Наиболее объективную информацию можно получить при оценке биомеханических параметров ходьбы, но до недавнего времени эта технология имела очень высокую стоимость [12,13]. В доступной литературе имеется незначительное количество исследований, посвященных анализу параметров ходьбы после ЭП КС.…”
