“…Delivering programmes for telecare in a cost-effective yet dependable way requires that we understand ageing in place as the product of collaborative networks, tying patients, technology suppliers, lay carers, health and care service providers together . CSCW research has shown how designing to support collaboration affords more dependable, safe and secure healthcare systems (e.g., Procter et al 2006;Fitzpatrick and Ellingsen 2012). It also emphasizes the importance of understanding and feeding users' experience of technologies back into design processes so that dependability can be seen in its socio-technical context.…”

“…With new wireless, networked, and sensor-based advances, the choice of self-management practices, tools, and technologies has never been greater (Randell et al 2010). Personal health tools have been the focus of much research in HCI (Nunes et al 2015) and CSCW (Fitzpatrick and Ellingsen 2013), with some positive results in terms of behaviour change and emotional support. Personal health informatics systems for tracking one's personal health variables have been attributed to promoting self-reflection and awareness in self-care (Aarhus et al 2009).…”

“…On a similar note, Berg explains how information technologies "afford the increased distribution of work practices over a greater number of entities, and over more times and spaces" (Berg 1999). Fitzpatrick and Ellingsen also shows how CSCW over the last 25 years has evolved from artifact mediated healthcare work, through locating healthcare in space and time, to expanding contexts of healthcare work with "large scale implementations -integration and standardization challenges" (Fitzpatrick & Ellingsen 2013). This coordination over time and space in the domain of healthcare is similar to what we see in the empirical account above.…”
