A Review of Bionic Design in Satellite Solar Wing Structures

Abstract: This article summarizes the development process and trend of satellite solar wings from the perspective of structural design. At the same time, it summarizes the research on the deployment mechanism based on the principle of bionics. The results show that the expansion mechanism exhibited by natural organisms has natural advantages in terms of folding optimization and smoothness of the unfolding process. It has important reference significance for the structural design of space folding mechanism such as satell… Show more

“…Biomimetics has played a significant role in engineering. Examples include collision avoidance systems inspired by bamboo structures, reduction of turbulent drag using shark skin structures, and satellite folding solar wings inspired by insect wing designs [1][2][3]. Moreover, animal nest-building behavior serves for communication and offspring protection, with potential engineering applications [4].…”

“…Most earth‐orbit spacecraft and interplanetary vessels have utilized solar panels (also referred to as solar arrays, solar wings, or solar panel arrays in other papers 1–4 ) to harness energy from the Sun. Typically, various structural configurations and installation methods for solar panels are developed according to specific mission requirements.…”
