A Review of Contact Lens-Related Risk Factors and Complications

Abstract: The purpose of this article is to develop a modern strategy for handling difficulties related to contact lenses and their care. A growing number of people throughout the world are currently concerned by eye-related undesirable activities in allergy sufferers and those wearing contact lenses. While many wearers who experience ocular discomfort exhibit dryness as a symptom, many other contact lens-related pain symptoms also include irritation and fatigue, and managing coexisting diseases must be done in accordan… Show more

“…Soft contact lenses, in a "safe, convenient and aesthetic" way, overcome the reduction of the image of objects and the trigeminal effect, which is caused by glasses. It has become an important means of refractive error correction [3][4] . However, astigmatism correction is a huge challenge for soft contact lenses.…”

“…The contamination of contact lens and their storage containers have been linked to cases of microbial keratitis (5,6). The cause of contact lens-associated eye disease includes the introduction of pathogens into the eye and corneal hypoxia resulted from long-term wearing of contact lens, especially those made using low oxygen transmissibility material (low DK/t), and it probably leads to an unhealthy epithelium and is an entry point for microorganisms (7,8). In contact lens case surveys conducted in various countries, the microbial detection rate in storage cases has been found to exceed 50% (9).…”
